This is a poem I have written for my husband to mark our ten year wedding anniversary today:
One summer’s day,
Filled with vows and promises,
Champagne and laughter,
Hope and expectation.
Clouds may sometimes darken the brilliance of the sun,
Storms take hold; flashes of anger splitting harmonies.
But this is nothing compared to the permeating joy
Brought by our creation and the truth that testifies
We are still here.
The demands of our lives leave us weary and spent,
But let us fall into each others arms and rest there.
A silent understanding that a decade of love can exhaust and exhilarate,
Strengthen and build.
